Reaching Out to the Community

Sanctuary Arts School has an important mission to bring the glass arts into the community and conduct arts projects and classes for the elderly, veterans, the disabled, children and families that are  economically challenged.

Access to Practice

Sanctuary Arts School makes the glass arts available to artists, students and anyone wanting to utilize glass as an art form. The studio will have a sliding rental scale per hour to accommodate everyone. A special bench is available for people in wheelchairs, so they too will have access to glass blowing.

Education and Entrepreneurship

Throughout the year SAS offers classes in glass blowing, kiln casting, sand casting, glass mosaics, hot sculpting, etc. Courses are available to all. Part of our program is to offer classes to those from financially challenged circumstances and people who have physical challenges. Special guest artists will visit to teach courses, do demonstrations and, give public artist talks.

A Sanctuary for Artists

Each year we will offer special internships for emerging artists and an artist in residency program. We will provide studio space for visiting artists who are wanting to share their talents with our students. We welcome students from all over the world that wish to expand their skill sets and experience collaborative opportunities.

Glass as Therapy

We are excited to offer our "Glass Warrior" program for active military or veterans dealing with PTSD. We have already started with two active military soldiers. The arts can be utilized as a way to deal with PTSD and other issues individuals deal with because of life experiences. We are hoping to offer this program to others once we raise more funds.

Sharing Talents

We bring international glass artist to our community to share their talents during demonstrations. Our local artists are also presenting public demonstrations to promote the glass arts. We do special demonstrations with Providence House, Deaf Action Center and many other social service organizations. Join our email list to learn more.

SGS presents Exhibitions for the general public in Bossier City. This past summer SGS and SRAC presented "The Texas Contemporary Glass Exhibition" at Artspace, reaching thousands in Caddo Parish. Our Director Eric Hess curated this exhibition and gave many curatorial talks. We are planning a juried international glass exhibition in the near future.
